Three Model X center screens: vertical for 2016 to 2020, landscape for 2021 to 2025 and 2026 and newer

Tesla Model X Floor Mats by Year: 2016–2020, 2021–2025 and 2026+

The short answer: Model X floor mats are sold by model-year range and seat layout. The ranges we list are 2016–2020 (the original car), 2021–2025 (the refreshed car) and 2026 and newer. A quick check: a vertical center screen means the original car, a landscape screen means the 2021 refresh or later.

Searching for floor mats for a 2022 or 2023 Model X, or for an older 2018 or 2019 car, leads to the same question: do the mats for one year fit another? The honest answer is that it depends on the range, and the safe move is to choose the set listed for your year. Here is how the ranges work.

Why 2021 is the line

In early 2021 Tesla refreshed the Model S and Model X interior. The Model X moved to a landscape center screen, lost its gear selector and got a redesigned steering wheel. That is why the most reliable quick check is the screen. At least one mat retailer states that its sets for the refreshed car are not compatible with the original, so a mat for one side of the line should not be assumed to fit the other.

What each range means for your order

Range Includes Quick check
2016–2020 The original Model X. For 7-seaters the seller lists September 2017 and newer. Vertical center screen
2021–2025 The refreshed Model X, including the years people search for as 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025. Landscape center screen
2026 and newer The newest cars, listed as their own range by the seller. Landscape center screen and a 2026 or newer model year

The set also depends on your seat layout

Within each range, the sets are cut for 5, 6 or 7 seats, and on our Model X floor and cargo mats page every layout is listed for every range, with the 7-seater starting in September 2017:

Layout 2016–2020 2021–2025 2026+
5 seats Listed Listed Listed
6 seats Listed Listed Listed
7 seats Listed (Sep 2017 and newer) Listed Listed

If your layout and year are not listed, check with the seller before ordering, and do not pick the closest year. See how the 5, 6 and 7-seat layouts differ.

Check the notes on individual pieces

Some sellers add fit notes to specific pieces, for example the trunk or the lower trunk well, such as a build-date limit. Read the notes on the listing for the piece you are buying, and not only the year in the title.

Frequently asked questions

Do 2022 and 2023 Model X mats fit the same car?

Both fall in the 2021–2025 range we list, so a set listed for that range and your seat layout is the right place to start.

Will 2019 mats fit a 2022 Model X?

Do not assume so. The car changed in the 2021 refresh, and sets are listed by range. Choose the one for your year.

Do I need different mats for a Model X Plaid?

The sets are listed by year range and seat layout, not by trim. A Plaid with the same layout and years uses the same listing.

How do I tell which year range I have?

Start with the center screen: vertical is the original, landscape is 2021 or later. Then check the model year on your registration or the car's information screen.
