Model X six-seat layout with an aisle next to the seven-seat layout with a bench

Tesla Model X Floor Mats: 5, 6 or 7 Seats? How to Choose the Right Set

The short answer: a Model X floor mat set is cut for one seat layout and one model-year range, not for the trim. Count your seats and look at the second row: two chairs with an aisle is the six-seater, a three-seat bench with a third row is the seven-seater, and a bench with no third row is the five-seater. Order the set listed for that layout and your years.

People searching for Model X floor mats for 5, 6 or 7 seats usually have the same worry: the right mats for the wrong layout will not fit. The floor is shaped differently in the second row, and only some versions have a third row. Here is what changes, and how to be sure before you order.

The three Model X layouts

Layout Seats Second row Third row
5 seats 2 + 3 Three-seat bench None
6 seats 2 + 2 + 2 Two captain chairs with an aisle between them Two seats
7 seats 2 + 3 + 2 Three-seat bench Two seats

How to tell which one you have

  1. Count the seats and look at the second row. Two separate chairs with a gap between them means six seats.
  2. Check for a third row. If there is none, you have the five-seater.
  3. Do not go by the trim name. Mat sets are listed by seat layout and model-year range, not by Long Range or Plaid. The seats in front of you are the answer.

Why the mats are different

  • Second row: a bench and two captain chairs sit on a differently shaped floor, so the second-row mats are not interchangeable.
  • Third row: the six and seven-seaters need third-row footwell mats, and the cargo area behind the third row is smaller than in a five-seater.
  • Cargo area: cargo mats for the six and seven-seaters also include covers for the back of the third-row seats, according to the seller.

Which set to order

On our Model X floor and cargo mats page, the sets are listed like this:

Your layout Year ranges listed
5 seats 2016–2020, 2021–2025, 2026 and newer
6 seats 2016–2020, 2021–2025, 2026 and newer
7 seats September 2017–2020, 2021–2025, 2026 and newer

Each layout comes as floor mats only or as a full set with the frunk and trunk mats. If your layout and year are not on the list, check with the seller before ordering instead of choosing the closest one.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use 7-seat mats in a 6-seat Model X?

Not as a safe bet. The second row is shaped differently. Choose the set listed for your exact layout.

Do 5-seat mats fit a car with a third row?

No. A five-seater has no third-row floor, so the set does not include third-row mats.

Do I need different mats for the Model X Plaid?

The sets are listed by seat layout and years, not by trim. A Plaid and a Long Range with the same layout and model-year range use the same listing. Check your layout and year.

Do I need different mats for the frunk and trunk?

Yes. They are separate pieces, sold as part of the full set or on their own as cargo mats.

Are the floor mats for left- or right-hand drive?

According to the seller, the floor mats are for left-hand-drive cars only.
